🌸 Compassion toward living beings increases merit… but binding them creates karmic entanglement

1. What are domesticated animals?

Domesticated animals are beings who are not biologically part of our human lineage but accompany us through love, service, and devotion. Humans are blessed with intelligence, reasoning, and decision-making ability. Animals, however, act according to their natural instincts and the karma assigned to their species.

2. Nature, karma, and spiritual place of animals

🔸 Wild Animals
These animals are created to live in their natural habitats. Forests are their true homes, and the natural cycle of life there is their path. Keeping them artificially in cages violates their spiritual freedom.

🔸 Birds (Flying creatures)
Flying is their nature and joy. Keeping them in cages in the name of hobby is exploitation and deprives them of their natural freedom.

Carnivorous and Herbivorous Animals

🔹 Cat – Hunter, agile, possessive.
Earlier, cats were kept mainly to control rats and mice. They were not considered indoor family members; they would come and go freely. Nowadays, humans control their entire routine, which goes against their natural way of life.

🔹 Dog – Loyalty, protection, alertness.
Since ancient times dogs have been companions to humans. However, traditionally they were protectors of the home, not human family members living inside the house. Their place was usually outside, near the entrance.

🔹 Chickens, goats, sheep
Humans have domesticated these animals mainly for personal benefit—milk, meat, and wool for protection from cold.

🔹 Cow and Buffalo
Even today, around 80% of people use their milk. The cow represents purity and spiritual energy, while the bull represents hard work and strength.

3. Spiritual significance of certain animals

🐄 Cow – Associated with Dattatreya, Guru, and peace. The cow is believed to radiate divine sattvic energy.

🐕 Dog – Associated with Dattatreya and strength. Feeding dogs is considered auspicious.

🪶 Crow – Associated with Kalbhairav, Saturn, and ancestral spirits. Feeding crows is considered meritorious and linked to honoring ancestors.

✋ Pigeon – Should not be encouraged to stay in the house. Pigeon droppings can be harmful and may cause lung diseases and serious health problems, so they should not be allowed to nest inside homes.

4. Importance of stray animals but with proper boundaries

Dogs, cows, and crows usually do not snatch food but wait and expect it. Therefore, they should be fed outside the house.

If animals need help, food, love, or medical care, they should certainly be given. But they should not be bound or restricted. Freedom is their natural duty.

5. Astrological / Spiritual perspective

Cats and dogs are believed to increase the influence of Ketu in astrology.

If Ketu is unfavorable in a person’s horoscope, keeping cats or dogs inside the house may increase stress, obstacles, and instability. Therefore, serving them with love outside the home is considered better.

Give love:
